Spring cleaning… naturally
When the first rays of sun warm the air and the windows are finally opened, an almost instinctive desire takes hold of us: to make way for renewal. We let in the fresh air and light, and give the house that feeling of cleanliness that feels so good.
Spring cleaning is often synonymous with big chores... but also with freshness, pleasant smells, and a healthy environment. However, many commercial household products that promise a sparkling home hide a less appealing reality: they often contain substances potentially harmful to health and the environment.
What commercial household products often contain
Many conventional cleaners contain synthetic ingredients that can irritate the skin, eyes, or respiratory tract, and pollute water once released into the environment. Among the most common, we find, for example:
-
Ammonia, a respiratory irritant
-
Chlorine (bleach), whose vapors can be aggressive
-
Phthalates, often present in synthetic fragrances
-
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), responsible for the chemical odor of certain cleaners and capable of altering indoor air quality
-
Phosphates, which contribute to water pollution
Given these observations, more and more people are choosing to simplify their cleaning kit and opt for natural, effective, and environmentally friendly solutions.
Making your own cleaning products: simple and effective
Good news: it's very easy to prepare a homemade all-purpose cleaner with just a few ingredients. In addition to being economical, it allows you to scent your home with natural, fresh, and invigorating fragrances.
All-Purpose Cleaner Recipe

3/4 cup rubbing alcohol

1 1/4 cups Fir Hydrosol

30 drops of Spring Clean Diffuser Blend
or essential oils of your choice (Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Rosemary) -
An old recycled spray bottle
Preparation
-
Pour all ingredients into the spray bottle.
-
Close and shake gently to mix well.
-
Spray on surfaces and wipe with a clean cloth.
This cleaner is ideal for countertops, kitchen surfaces, sinks, and bathrooms, leaving a fresh and pleasant scent. However, due to the alcohol it contains, avoid using it on wood surfaces.
A versatile blend for home maintenance
The Spring Clean Diffuser Blend, part of the Habitat Complex range, is an aromatic blend particularly appreciated for home maintenance. Composed of citrus and conifer essential oils, it diffuses a lively and refreshing scent that evokes both the freshness of forests and the vibrancy of citrus zests. Its natural fragrance perfectly accompanies cleaning moments and helps create a clean and revitalizing atmosphere in the home.
A few drops are enough for several uses:
-
Add a few drops to cleaning water for countertops or floors
-
Place a few drops on the vacuum cleaner filter to diffuse a fresh scent while vacuuming
-
For windows, add 10 to 20 drops to a mixture of vinegar and water
-
For toilet bowl cleaning, use 10 to 20 drops
These small actions naturally perfume the home while simplifying the products used.
Freshening enclosed spaces
Certain areas of the house are more difficult to keep fresh, especially closets, wardrobes, or poorly ventilated spaces. In these areas where air circulates little, a musty smell can sometimes settle in.
In the Habitat Complex range, the Wardrobe essential oil blend has been specially formulated for these enclosed spaces. A few drops placed on clay beads are enough to slowly diffuse its fragrance and help eliminate stale or musty odors, leaving clothes and linen with a pleasant feeling of freshness.
Maintaining balance around the house
With the return of good weather, nature awakens... and so do some small visitors. Sometimes insects or small animals try to invite themselves into the house.
To limit these intrusions, the range also offers the Protective Marker essential oil blend. Used around doors, windows, or entry points, it helps create an aromatic barrier that discourages these unwanted visitors, while avoiding the use of harsher chemicals.
A clean house... and a healthier one
Choosing natural household products means taking care of your home in a different way. You reduce exposure to unnecessary chemicals, limit the environmental impact, and rediscover the pleasure of a clean, bright, and delicately scented home.
After all, spring cleaning should leave behind a feeling of freshness and well-being, not a lingering chemical odor.
