History and origin: Patchouli is a tropical plant that grows in Indonesia or the Philippines. Its name appeared in the early 19th century . century and it would come from Tamil patch which means "green" and he said which means "leaf." When fresh, it does not have the distinctive aroma that we know it for. It must go through a fermentation process before being distilled. Patchouli's reputation in the perfume industry is well established. It is widely used, but often in the form of fractions (essences redistilled and separated from their heavy phases), which have the advantage of possessing a finer, less camphor-like flavor. Superstitious people use patchouli to attract money and prosperity. Patchouli is also used in the creation of fertility talismans. |
