History and Origin

Thymus serpyllum is a widespread plant in the Mediterranean region. It is perennial and creeping, does not measure more than 10 cm in height but can extend over a width of up to 50 cm. Its flowering produces a multitude of small purple and perfumed flowers. It has similar properties to thyme. That is why it is called Thyme serpolet.

Culinary

The Thyme Serpolet can be used in cooking very sparingly to flavor dishes.

Environment

The essential oil of Thyme Serpolet can be used in diffusion for its sanitizing properties, but as it is powerful, it must be strongly diluted with more soft essential oils.

Synergy

Lavander, rosemary, citruses.

Safety

  • Dermocaustic and irritating to mucous membranes. Do not apply directly to the skin. Use at low dose and do not use for a long period.
  • Not recommended for children and pregnant women.
