Origin: India, Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Laos, Japan, Philippines

History and Origin

Small tree native to Asia, mainly from China. It can grow up to 10 meters and is always green. The foliage is dark green, the flowers are pink or yellow and the fruit, reddish-brown once dried, has a star shape.

Culinary

Anise star is an important spice in the Chinese cuisine. It flavors meats and fish. It is also used to prepare deserts (pastries, jams, fruit salads, etc.). It is also used in the preparation of candies as well as aniseed liquors and aperitifs (pastis, ouzo, etc.).

Perfumery

Mainly used for men’s perfumes.

Synergy

It blends well with clove, fennel, ginger, pepper and cinnamon.
