History and Origin

Turmeric is a perennial plant that can reach one meter in height. It has several rhizomes which are yellow-orange on the inside. The name turmeric may come from Latin terra merita which means "meritorious earth". Turmeric has been used for millennia to treat inflammation and stomach problems.

Culinary

Turmeric essential oil can be added to cosmetic preparations for its anti-wrinkle and regenerating benefits for mature skins. Turmeric can also fight dandruff.
