History and Origin

A strong and resistant tree of the myrtaceae family that can grow up to 8 meters high, Leptospermum scoparium has small fragrant leaves and aromatic white flowers. Native to New Zealand, Australia and Tasmania, the plant has long been used in Maori medicine to treat wounds, cuts and skin infections. It is sometimes also called "Tea tree" in English, but it should not be confused with the real "Tea tree" which is actually Melaleuca alternifolia

Oil Characteristics : Manuka oil is clear yellow and slightly viscous. Its aroma is spicy, fresh and herbaceous.
Energetic and Emotional Effect : Manuka oil has a protective effect on the psyche. It is stabilizing, de-stressing, tonic and neuroprotective. It is associated with the crown and root chakras.

Uses

Culinary

Manuka honey is produced from the nectar of the tree. It is said to have strong antibacterial properties, help strengthen the immune system and have many other health benefits. 

Skincare

Manuka oil is traditionally used to treat acne and pimples.

Synergy

In combination with tea tree, lavender and palmarosa for skin and with ravintsara and eucalyptus radiata for respiratory tract.

Safety

  • This oil is contraindicated for children under 6 years and pregnant or nursing women.
  • Test on a small area of skin to check tolerance, but the oil is very well tolerated on the skin.
