History and Origin

Valerian is a perennial plant with white-pink flowers. Its leaves are pointed and toothed. Its grey-yellow rhizome, from which is extracted the essential oil, is covered with long and thick roots. Common valerian is used for sleeping problems, reduce anxiety and diminish nervousness since Antiquity. Historically, it has been claimed to have a thousand virtues, sometimes contradictory; the plant was believed to cure virtually anything. To this day, modern science only recognizes the power to treat minor sleeping disorders.
